Who We Are
KFUG Community Radio – Homegrown Community Media
KFUG began as an intrusive thought in the mind of Jim “Weird” Wayman back in 2010, or thereabouts. Over a table littered with rolling papers and gritty instant coffee crystals, Jim and Paul Critz caught that errant synaptical spark and fanned it into the conflagration it is today: KFUG-LP, broadcasting a screaming 100 watts at 101.1 on the FM dial. Oh, and the rest of the world can listen in, too, online.
Initially, KFUG was a Part 15-compliant AM station rocking three low-power AM transmitters sprinkled around Crescent City, connected by an old-fashioned phoneline STL. In 2013, the FCC opened the mythical “window” to accept applications for low-power FM (LPFM) licenses and KFUG climbed right in.
Since 2015, KFUG-LP has been a thing. Broadcasting by the seat of their collective pants, the volunteers who have comprised this endeavor have produced some outstanding content – interviews and segments that engage and inform, music shows that open new aural horizons to the listener. They have brought their music libraries and helped create the aggregate beast that is FugDora. Every volunteer leaves their mark, their vibe, their sound as part of KFUG Community Radio. We would be silent without them!
In 2019, Redwood Voice Youth Media became part of KFUG, and we began broadcasting Redwood Voice Community News, first weekly, then week-daily. Today, Redwood Voice Community News is the only newscast coming out of Del Norte, and Redwood Voice Youth Media is the most robust youth media organization in Northern California. We are duly proud.
Share, Like, Support…but most of all KEEP LISTENING to KFUG Community Radio!
