For the better part of a year, these guys hosted a GREAT youth-oriented show, YouthOffTopic, in which they'd play music, crack wise and, occasionally say something insightful and wise. But mostly they cracked wise...
One of the coolest, chillest, dopest, um, freshest...no, that's to '80s...flyiest...that's for girls....um, anyway, we'll ask JGood what the kids are "rapping" about "now." Tune into Raw Radio for the best in contemporary rap/hip hop. JGood is also an accomplished rapper/musician in his own right. And a seriously cool guy.
Pleiades Moonstar hosts The World According to Pleiades, a show like no other on KFUG Community Radio. THink Art Bell from back in the day, but less crazy. From conspiracies to train robberies to rock-n-roll. Radio GOLD!
This is Zoe. Zoe likes anime. Zoe hosts a radio show, WEEBNation, with her Dad. Zoe often has to turn her Dad's mic off. But if you wanna dig the crazy music from what has become a unique, engaging art-form, then WEEBNation is a show for YOU!
The Don of Rock hosts a pair of shows on KFUG. First, KFUG Mystery Theater, old time radio shows, speeches, news broadcasts and MORE from back when radio was the internet! Second, The Don plays an hour or so of Pink Floyd music...the show is A Saucerful of Floyd, and it makes us really happy. So many other stations have Grateful Dead hours (BLECH!), but NOT KFUG. Floyd is more our speed...
When he's not pastorizing for Hiouchi Community Fellowship or going to Board of Supervisor meetings, Steve Perez hosts New Creation Radio, an hour and a half of contemporary Christian music and philosophy. Unless he's in the mood for what he calls "belly-rubbin' music," then it's a little different. Either way, you'll be uplifted!
The Fallguy recently celebrated THREE YEARS behind the mic at KFUG! In that time, he's taken his show into the stratosphere! Twitter, Facebook, all that stuff! Like THOUSANDS of followers! He also lends his golden pipes to a lot of our liners and Underwriting Announcements. He'll even write you a jingle and sing it LIVE on the air! It's talent like this that makes us want to PAY our DJs! Which reminds us, got to the Membership page and buy The Fallguy a beer!!
The 408er has been a stalwart KFUG presence since we first came on the air back in the late '50s. He plays hardcore, deathcore, power violence, grindcore and the bass. Oh, and the drums. He DIGS vinyl, and most of his show is spun on the lone KFUG turntable. And if you're in a hardcore band and want to get on the radio, he's the guy to talk to! The 408er is also one of the core staffers who know how to run this station. Without him, we would NOT be the same radio station!
As a non-profit in a small town, KFUG does everything on the cheap. Take our mixing board, for example. A $100 Behringer special. If you care about Community Radio (or just good-sounding audio!), go to the Become a Member page and GIVE US SOME MONEY!! No one here gets paid, we are all volunteers. Except the Behringer...it HAS to work!
Sean Waddell has THREE shows (WHAT!?!)...that's right, THREE SHOWS! Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, all at 1pm PT. Nat King Cole, Kenny Chesney, Ac/DC...you're typical whiplash radio format. He's a great DJ and a helluva guy!
For more than a year, Martha Snyder was sort of the den-mother of KFUG. She kept the books, baked the brownies, and played herself some Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin on her evening show. She was a tough woman, smart, assertive, and funny. Back in the day she was a belly dancer (she'd show ya the picture of her in full belly dancer regalia if you asked real nice!). Martha laughed and cajoled and, when she needed to, kicked herself some ass. She succumbed to the big C in 2014, and we still miss her ...
JackKnife hosts The Slightly Darker Show every Saturday night at 9pm PT. Alternative, harder stuff peppered with political and social rants that get progressively more incoherent as the show approaches the witching hour. We weren't sure why; at first we thought maybe a brain tumor or blood sugar issues...turns out, he's a drunk. Case in point: JackKnife has NO recollection of ever posing for this picture. Truly sad...
Created by local artist Marcia Volkers, inspired by local musician (and Marcia's boyfriend) Dale Morgan, featured in the cult classic Love in the Time of Monsters...it's SasqWah! The original painting is life-size! You get extra points if you can name what kind of guitar Del Norte's resident rockin' hominid fancies.
Jen and Luke Bayon are married, with kids and bills and soccer and all that...but they are also a local power-duo called The Lost Woods. KFUG plays The Lost Woods every chance we get. They are super cool musicians and extra-super cool people, to boot. Check the Lost Woods out on Reverbnation and Facebook...
Local artist and all-around-good-egg, Marcia Volkers paints on her "F" - part of our in-studio KFUG mural. Stop in, or better yet, just walk by and look in the windows of the palatial KFUG studios on downtown Crescent City. Marcia's "F" is the only letter completed. JackKnife was painting the other letters, but as we pointed out in another slide, he's a drunk.
KFUG Founder and general man-about-town, Jim "One Watt" Wayman just goes with the flow. Jim started KFUG as an online stream in 2010. With Colonel Fug, he brought the web-radio version of KFUG to the airwaves as a Part 15 low power AM station in 2012. Since then, KFUG has gone FM and Jim has gone away with the flow. If you see him around town, buy him a drink and shake his hand. It'll make his day!
Yep. Heavy Metal from back int he day, meaning the 80s, mostly. Every Wednesday at 10pm PT bang your head against your radio with DJD and his crunchy, chunky, screaming radio show. By day he works for corporate radio, but by night he frees the inner-Eddie and celebrates all things metal. Fly the devil horns with DJD!
